Little Bao – Sukhumvit, Bangkok, Thailand

It’s fun, funky and fast paced but even better than that, the food is fantastic. We stopped in for a light dinner so we steered clear of the many share plates on offer and opted to share the scallop ceviche with dumpling chips. The ceviche was fresh and tangy and the dumpling chips were a creative alternative to corn chips or tortillas.
Then we went straight to the bao. Both the sichuan chicken and pork belly options were delicious and I’m pleased we got to try both but for me, the pork belly was the winner – moist, full of flavour and melt in the mouth. Sichuan chicken was also tasty with a spicy little chilli bite and crunchy chicken pieces. I think it goes without saying but of course the buns are truly amazing. The big problem for me was the dessert bao. We ordered one salted caramel and one green tea (we had to try both!). I loved my green tea bao with the condensed milk sauce but as soon as I tried the salted caramel option, I wanted that too… so we had another round of dessert! Yep, it was that good. Creamy ice cream, lightly salted caramel sauce on a warm bao bun that has a buttery salted crust on the outside. When dessert tastes this good, why would you resist.
Offerings for refreshments cover all options. Service is friendly, staff all seem happy to be there.
Located in the 72 Courtyard complex on Sukhumvit 55, it’s the perfect start to a night of bar hopping or relaxing over a few beverages. I will definitely pop in again when in Bangkok.
