Given that it’s hiding down an alley away from a busy street, this little gem is a relaxed spot for a romantic dinner or group night out. It could be a little difficult to find but if you look out for the ‘Bep Me In’ sign on the street (it’s the restaurant right next door to Cocotte) you won’t have trouble.

Cocotte is casual, bistro style French food and one of the best French meals I’ve eaten in recent memory. We started with French onion soup and it was outstanding – sweet and full of flavour and even though it was a decent serving, I would have been happy to have another! For starters, we also shared a cocotte of cheese, bacon, spinach, etc from the specials board which was delicious with the endless supply of warm, soft baguette. At the suggestion of the staff, we shared the duck in green peppercorns for a main served with sides of ratatouille and truffled mash and left just enough room to share a crème brulee. It was all amazing – quality produce, delicately balanced flavours, beautifully executed.

Service was delightful – friendly and helpful without being pushy or too familiar. The wine list covered a good selection of styles and prices. We chose a bottle of French red and it went down very easily! All up our bill came to 1,040,000 and there are so many things on the menu we’re considering going again before we leave!
