We were looking for a stopover on our way up the coast when we came across The Regent Cha-am. It was a huge bargain so we figured the property was either getting tired, having renovations or empty. It turned out it was the first two. That’s not necessarily a negative though – it’s still The Regent.

Pranburi is located in the northern part of Prachuap Khiri Khan province and for me, this is where the presence of mass tourism starts to become more evident with large international resorts and the usual touristy shops. Beaches are ok but most are becoming busy with hotels. If you’re looking for a one stop resort ‘holiday by the pool’, this is the place.

Prachuap Grand Hotel exceeded our expectations on every front. Reception and checkout were both efficient and friendly, as were all staff we encountered on our brief stay. The hotel is well designed and decorated in a fresh, light and modern style. We booked junior suites and were pleased to see each has two large rooms.

Tanisa Resort was a fantastic find! Reception was prompt and friendly even though they hadn’t received the booking from Expedia (we did only book that morning but it should have gone through in under an hour). We travelled as three adults so booked two pool view rooms and were pleased to have them located side by side with parking right outside our room.

A quiet, sleepy seaside town in Nakhon Si Thammarat (but just south of Surat Thani), Khanom is a delight. The town itself has all the necessary amenities (banks, shops, etc) with a great deal of local flavour rather than westernised tourist restaurants.

Our stay at Sea Mountain was short (only 1 night) as we were committed to exploring the mainland and this was only the first stop so we didn’t want to get too comfortable but it definitely would have been possible here. The welcome at Reception is warm and efficient and we found that to be the same with all staff we encountered.
