I can’t fault it. Rooms are styled with understated luxury and well appointed for both tourists and business travellers. Suites are amazing. Service is consistently excellent – staff go above and beyond every time. Location is great – fantastic for views and still convenient for transport.

We stayed at the Abel Tasman for just one night to visit family and couldn’t fault it. The property is an ‘old fashioned’ motel in the very best way. Rooms are clean, beds are comfortable and all the necessary things are available. The location is perfect, just across the road from the beach, a few doors from shops, bakery (good coffee), etc.

Let me say straight up, yes, the Galle Face Hotel is undergoing major renovations but the pricing does reflect the inconvenience. With regard to the ongoing rooms and services, we were reasonably happy. The room was spacious and well appointed, even though it was a little worn but I expect this wing will receive attention when the other is complete.

Classy little boutique hotel in a restored mansion, this is the perfect stay to explore the quaint fort area of Galle. This hotel is stylish and tastefully appointed, providing heaps of character and charm without forgoing the necessities. The pool area is a little oasis of peace and, as we were a small group travelling together, the rooms around the pool were perfect for socialising.

Bungalows are terrific (we were upgraded to Ocean View – thanks!), common areas are well thought out, staff are very friendly and efficient, and food was lovely but the standout for us was definitely the location – right in the buffer zone next to the National Park so we had monkeys, deers, crocodiles and elephants wandering around the area by the pool… outstanding!!! Highly recommended.

Loved everything about this place. Stunning design, gorgeous location, friendly staff. We toasted the the amazing view with champagne in the evening and woke to the ‘silence’ of the forest in the morning. It truly was bliss. The only thing I could suggest would be a little more attention to the gardens as there appeared to be a little bit of rubbish gathering.

I have to say, this was my least favourite hotel in Sri Lanka – no horrific experience but it just needs a total makeover. I can appreciate heritage hotels but they should never be shabby or dirty. On top of that, the staff tried to be friendly but definitely not efficient – I suspect some professional training might help. The Grand has a beautiful shell but it would be wonderful to see her given some TLC.

Views are spectacular, our rooms were comfortable but the bathroom was a little musty. Food was uninspiring at both dinner & breakfast – mostly cold except for the sushi which was warm. Bar staff were attentive but all others appeared like they would rather be elsewhere (not rude, just uninterested). No wifi in the rooms.

We stayed at Chaaya Village for 2 nights as a base to explore Sigiriya & Polonnaruwa – it is perfectly located for both. The bungalows are comfortable and nicely decorated, and the grounds are well kept. The restaurant was pleasant and all staff were both friendly and helpful.

We arrived into Colombo very late and were whisked to our hotel, Jetwing Sea. Rooms were comfortable and quiet, breakfast was delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful but the hotel is showing evidence of becoming a little tired. It is in a convenient location close to the airport (but no aircraft noise) so I would return again but only for a 1-2 night stay.

We chose the Mayfield based on meetings with our supplier and it was perfect for that purpose. Service was first rate, friendly and knowledgeable. We were upgraded to the Suites (thank you!) and the rooms were clean, well appointed and extremely comfortable. The grounds were well kept and thoughtfully laid out.

Location is terrific for business, shopping, dining, sightseeing. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was terrific. Rooms are pleasant although we had a room with a door joining another and the young family in there were quite noisy. I suspect that wouldn’t be so much of a problem if there was no joining door.
