We’ve been looking forward to experiencing Sihanoukville for some time and after loads of research, I’m confident that we chose our base well. The transfer from Phnom Penh (arranged by Tamu) was approximately 3 hours for us. With trucks, tractors, motorbikes and livestock using the same road, it’s an interesting drive.

Six Senses has been our ‘go-to’ for celebrations since 2007 when we celebrated my **th birthday with family and friends who had travelled from Australia. On that occasion, staff went above and beyond our expectations, even coming up with special touches we didn’t ask for. Everyone who attended agreed it was an evening to remember.

The Orchid Restaurant has been around for years and is still one of our favourites in Choeng Mon. It’s casual and great value for money, they have a huge menu with European options for those who prefer (they do a decent pizza!) but we go for the Thai food. My favourite is the Miang Kham, a DIY dish of betel leaves with a selection of prawns, nuts, coconut, chilli & a delicious sauce!

Our quest for a healthy breakfast took an unexpected turn this morning when we checked out this little gem. We’ve driven past for years and never stopped but I’m glad we finally did. The beach is between Chaweng and Lamai. The sand was not as soft as Chaweng but I wouldn’t say it was harsh. Scattered palm trees provide plenty of shade if required. The water is clear, with a very gentle wave and not a lot of weed around. We visited in the morning and it was definitely not crowded but getting busier when we left. Access is via Crystal Bay Yacht Club and I would definitely consider stopping in to their restaurant for lunch or a drink if it was later in the day. Will definitely go again.

For our recent stay on Samui, we are lucky to have three months so we looked for a villa that meets all of our needs. Richmond Villas is perfect. Our air-conditioned villa is three bedrooms with very comfortable beds (unusual in Thailand!), all bedrooms have private bathrooms (one with bath) and sliding doors to allow the breeze.

When travelling, I like to eat the local food as much as possible but it’s nice to have something different occasionally and even better when you find a good quality option. We chose Spaghetti Cove for the convenient location (main street Choeng Mon) and open air setting but both are matched by delicious food and outstanding service.

We stopped here for a light dinner following a recommendation from a local and were immediately glad we did. The open space is nicely decorated, small but relaxed, clean and comfortable. The welcome is warm and there was a lovely breeze coming through from the restaurants across the road. It is situated on a busy road but the traffic isn’t really a bother, just part of the experience.

Our first stay at Baan Chaweng Beach Resort was in 2007, we’ve stayed a number of times since then with our most recent visit being just last week and it’s pleasing to see that it’s the same now as it was 9 years ago. Our visits have been with different groups (couples, family & friends) and Baan Chaweng suits all. With many levels of accommodation to choose from, it’s easy to find a match.

We’ve driven past this restaurant a number of times since it opened but our holidays have been full and we had no time to stop. This time, we did and definitely worth the effort. The food is fresh and tasty, not packaged or pre-prepared.
