Prachuap Grand Hotel exceeded our expectations on every front. Reception and checkout were both efficient and friendly, as were all staff we encountered on our brief stay. The hotel is well designed and decorated in a fresh, light and modern style. We booked junior suites and were pleased to see each has two large rooms.

We’ve been excited about visiting Chumphon for a while now and it didn’t disappoint. Located in the province of Surat Thani and with easy access from the main highway north/south, it’s well positioned for a stopover but to do it justice a few nights would be better.

Tanisa Resort was a fantastic find! Reception was prompt and friendly even though they hadn’t received the booking from Expedia (we did only book that morning but it should have gone through in under an hour). We travelled as three adults so booked two pool view rooms and were pleased to have them located side by side with parking right outside our room.

A quiet, sleepy seaside town in Nakhon Si Thammarat (but just south of Surat Thani), Khanom is a delight. The town itself has all the necessary amenities (banks, shops, etc) with a great deal of local flavour rather than westernised tourist restaurants.

Our stay at Sea Mountain was short (only 1 night) as we were committed to exploring the mainland and this was only the first stop so we didn’t want to get too comfortable but it definitely would have been possible here. The welcome at Reception is warm and efficient and we found that to be the same with all staff we encountered.

After our previous experience with the Air Asia ferry crossing from Samui to Donasak with Raja and their bus connection to Surat Thani, we were keen to try another operator. This time we went with Lomprayah and the ferry connection was so much better. We booked online and took our booking (on the mobile phone) to 7-eleven to pay.

Chok Dee Bar is one of our favourite places for a drink in Choeng Mon. Even though it is on the main road, it has an open air, beachy feel which is perfect for a stop in the late afternoon but it’s also a relaxed spot for drinks late into the night. The lovely sisters who run the bar are friendly and quick to make everyone feel welcome whether its couples, friends or families.

Beaches in Koh Samui – Thailand

The island of Samui boasts some amazing beaches with crystal clear water (on most days) and beautiful white sand. Sadly it’s true that Samui suffers from a garbage problem and this does affect some of the more uninhabited beaches on some days and this depends on wind direction. For this reason, it’s an unfortunate fact that the beaches with some development tend to be cleaner.

I’m uncomfortable categorizing Cocktail King as a bar because it never feels like that for us – the relaxed and friendly atmosphere make it more of a hangout that serves alcohol. Meena and Rakk are wonderful hosts, always smiling and ready with a recommendation for drinks or suggestions for tours, etc but only when requested.
