The Pavilion is a relaxing, boutique hideaway (adults only!) housed in a collection of period buildings on Street 19 just south of the Royal Palace. After entering via a doorway on the street, the ‘urban oasis’ tag is confirmed – the pool area and gardens are immediately welcoming, evoking feelings of a luxurious and abundant retreat.

A small restaurant sits by the pool and although it looked inviting, we didn’t have an opportunity to try it. Guest rooms are in a number of annexes, some older than others but all seem to retain a great deal of the character and elegance of the original era with enough modern touches to ensure comfort. Beds are comfortable, water pressure is great and amenities are generous. Internet is available but not outstanding. A second pool is located toward the back of the complex and it too was lush and inviting. Service was efficient and friendly with staff looking for opportunities to assist at every opportunity. Unfortunately we only had one night here on our way through and our flight was early the next morning but even though we had to depart before breakfast, the staff were good enough to ensure we had a breakfast box to sustain us through a long day of travelling. My only disappointment was availability of massage services. Our package included a 25 minute ‘jet lag’ massage and although we asked a number of times if there was a vacancy, it never happened – first the staff were on a break, then they were busy and when we finally asked what vacancies they had for the remainder of the day, it turned out there were none. Having said that, I would definitely consider The Pavilion on my next trip to Phnom Penh.
