Sea Star Resort – Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam

This is our second stay at Sea Star and we weren’t disappointed. At US$75 per night, the bungalows on the beach are excellent value for money and ideal for two groups as there are two in each building and the balcony opens up to one shared space. The location is perfect – just out of town but still walking distance, taxis are available but motorbikes are also handy for seeing the island.

One thing we really love, is the restaurant. The location on the beach is terrific and the fact that they keep the prices so low (different to most resorts!) means you don’t have to go anywhere for food or drinks, alcohol included! The service is friendly and helpful with particular mention this time to Khun. He was always available to answer our questions about the resort, the food and the island. His English is terrific and he is very keen to learn. The only negative I can come up with about Sea Star is that the beds are hard but that’s common in Asia so just one to be aware of. I suppose the ocean can sometimes be a little messy (rubbish/dependent on wind direction) but not Sea Star’s fault. The staff are very attentive and spend a good deal of time doing their best to keep their section clean. I expect this is something that the people of Phu Quoc will need to address together as tourism ramps up. Note, I have seen websites talking about the new international airport but it is definitely not open and it doesn’t look like it will be until at least 2013 (but that’s just a guess).

If we are taking just one room again (ie a couple), I will consider the next level (sea view?) as they are freestanding and the walls aren’t terribly sound proof but fine if its your own group. 6A & 6B are a good combination for families as its one double bed and two singles.
